Beautiful Sayuri
Sayuri has succeeded in her weight loss diet by cutting on the nuts, chocolate and snacking. She has been having one tea spoon full of rat mix twice a day, supplemented by a table spoon full of diced fresh vegetables and fruits.
Exercise is known to reduces appetite so she is taken out of the cage as much as the time allows for a good run around. She also has vitamin drops and echinacea in her water. Her fur is beautifully silky and shiny. She is almost 10 month old and weighs around 275 grammes.
In deed a prime example of a healthy rat
.

The Twelve Commandments of Rat Keeping
  1. Do not pick the rat up by its tail. Ouch! It's very painful! It just makes the rat to hate you.
  2. Never use saw dust for the bedding. Saw dust irritates nose and eyes. Wood shavings or chips are much better.
  3. Never use soft wood such as pine or cedar bedding. Hardwood such as aspen is the best bedding. If your bag of bedding was a cheap wood material, it's more than likely to be a soft wood product. An old shredded newspaper still is better than the soft wood!
  4. Never cage male and female rats together unless you have plans to breed them.
  5. Never feed rats with fizzy drinks. Rats can't burp and it causes a serious problems.
  6. No cow milk! Rats can not digest cow milk very well. Try kitten milk or even Soya milk.
  7. Keep rats in a dry warm quiet area of the house away from direct sun light and draft.
  8. Rats should be fed mainly on a modest amount of rat mix, or a lab block supplemented by fresh vegetables and fruits. Overfeeding and unhealthy diet shortens rats' life span.
  9. Fresh water should be provided every day in a water bottle.
  10. Do not feed the rat with spicy or greasy food.
  11. Talk sweet nothings to your rat if you want to win its trust. Make sure you do this in private otherwise your friends and family will be very worried for your mental health.
  12. If you want to tame the rat, you need a great deal of patience!
